Dealing with a sore or burn that refuses to heal can be a daily battle. The Lutheran Hospital Outpatient Burn and Wound Clinic assesses, diagnoses and treats patients with all types of wounds, including:
- Diabetic ulcers
- Crush injuries
- Pressure sores
- Circulatory wounds
- Infections of the extremities
- Gangrene
- Non-healing surgical wounds
- Trauma wounds
- Thermal burns from scalds, contact with hot surfaces and severe sunburn

Who’s at Risk?
Certain factors can cause a wound to develop into a complicated, non-healing wound. A person with any of the following conditions, especially older adults and children, should seek medical treatment for a wound.
- Early onset infection due to delayed treatment
- Edema or swelling in the feet or legs
- Chronic medical conditions, such as diabetes
- Deep wounds that involve tendons or bone
- Immobility
- Obesity
- Poor nutrition
- Tobacco addiction
- Vascular disease
