Ways To Use Leftovers
Add functionality to common breakfast items by repurposing them to meet your healing, cleaning and gardening needs. Here are a few examples:
The Halved Lemon
- Take the lemon from your tea, chop the peel, add sugar and oil, then mix together a facial scrub.
- Take the other half of your unused lemon and run it along your metal furniture as a polish.
The Coffee Grounds
- Remove half of the coffee grounds from the filter and apply them to your hair, either to steep your strands to a darker hue or to add an extra element to your conditioning.
- Consider using the other half of the grounds to clean the grease from the pan of last night's dinner creation.
The Leftover Banana
- If you are only adding half of a banana to your cereal or steel cut oats, take the other half, mash into a paste and give your forearms a workout by using it to scrub your hardwood floors.
- Then take the peel you left on the counter and swab it along your teeth for a whitening effect.
The Remains
Add all leftovers of your repurposed breakfast — the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency encourages adding the coffee filter as well — to your compost pile.
