Diabetes Care
According to the American Diabetes Association, more than 37 million people have diabetes in the United States. Diabetes affects how the body controls blood glucose (blood sugar). Diabetes can be classified as a chronic or reversible condition, Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes and prediabetes.
At Lutheran Hospital, the diabetes education program is certified by the American Diabetes Association. Appointments can be coordinated for patients visiting the hospital's wound clinic. Individual counseling from a diabetes educator teaches skills and provides the following information:
- Diabetes overview and treatment
- Meal planning
- Blood glucose monitoring
- Sick day management
- Administering injections/oral medications
- Prevention of diabetic complications
- Physical activity
- Promote wound healing
- Goal setting
- Personal follow-up
This program can help you achieve your blood glucose and hemoglobin A1C goals to improve your quality of life.
Diabetes Support Group
A diabetes support group meets on the third Thursday of each month from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. at Lutheran Hospital. No December meetings. If you are planning to attend, it is required to RSVP by calling (260) 435-7010 or by completing registration information online.
