Staff of Lutheran Hospital's Childbirth Suites Deliver More than Newborns

Staff-initiated food drive garners an abundance for Charis House

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Tuesday, May 3, 2011) – Associates from Lutheran Hospital’s Childbirth Suites will deliver carloads of non-perishable food, toiletry items, personal hygiene and cleaning products for the women and children who reside at the local nonprofit Charis House. After the drop of approximately 1,200 items at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 5, Lutheran staff will receive a guided tour of the homeless shelter for women and children.

The Charis House, located at 431 Fairmont Place, cares for upwards of 76 women and children in a newly constructed facility that was completed last May.

“This is the second year that Lutheran staff and physicians have initiated and organized this effort,” said Mindy Brown, nurse manager, Childbirth Suites, Lutheran Hospital. “We have fun with it because we make it a competition with teams and we track progress. However, making the effort to help others outside of work is the core purpose and it demonstrates that we genuinely care about our community.”
