Lutheran Hospital Invites Community to Remember Loved Ones with a Personalized Ornament
Fort Wayne, Ind. (Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010) — Lutheran Hospital invites anyone who wants to commemorate family members or friends with a personalized ornament to visit the hospital's main lobby on Saturday, Nov. 20, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. During that time, volunteers will paint the names of loved ones on tree ornaments. The ornaments will be placed on a Remembrance Tree in Lutheran's lobby and remain there throughout the holiday season. Special ornaments will be used to identify fallen heroes from the armed forces, fire department and police department.
Area choirs will perform seasonal music throughout the morning. A dedication ceremony will take place at 12:45 p.m. The names of individuals being remembered will be read at that time. Media are encouraged to attend the dedication.
Ornaments will be available for pick-up after the New Year as a keepsake for participants. There is no charge for the ornaments.
Lutheran's Remembrance Tree event was initiated and organized by Nicki Knefelkamp, who wanted to create a meaningful event in memory of her mother, Deborah Joanne Tracey. Nurses from Lutheran Hospital also assisted in planning this special activity. This is the second year for the event.
