Lutheran Weight Management Center Now Offering Popular Program at RediMed DeKalb

Auburn, Ind. (March 13, 2008) — As gas prices near record highs, the introduction of a proven, medically supervised option for weight loss in DeKalb Co. couldn't have come at a better time for patients living in communities north of Fort Wayne.  The Lutheran Weight Management Center, in partnership with DeKalb Memorial Hospital, has opened a new satellite program at RediMed DeKalb in Auburn, 253 N. Grandstaff Ave.  Until recently, residents living in counties north of Allen had to drive to Fort Wayne to take advantage of this resource.  Dean Elzey, MD, who has trained in the treatment of medical obesity, focusing on the use of Optifast® as a key treatment method, will personally monitor patient progress.

Optifast® therapy is an important step forward in the treatment of medical obesity.  It is designed for people who are significantly obese (BMI>30 or BMI 27-30 with complications) and/or those who have or are at risk of developing cardiovascular disease, diabetes or other medical problems.  The Optifast® program includes the temporary use of high-quality meal replacement formulas and bars in combination with lifestyle- and behavior-modification programs that are administered by a physician, nurse, dietitian, behaviorist and exercise physiologist.

Optifast® has been in use for 35 years, is supported in professional literature and is used in more than 400 clinics worldwide.  More than 1 million people have been treated with Optifast®, and 82 clinical studies have been published documenting successful outcomes five years out.

Individuals interested in taking advantage of the opportunities now available in DeKalb Co. may call (260) 435-7844 to learn more.
