Lutheran Heart and Kidney Transplant Programs Receive Three-Year Certification from Medicare
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Jan. 21, 2009) — Officials from the Lutheran Transplant Center received notification from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) that the hospital's heart and kidney transplant programs have both met the special requirements needed to earn a three-year certification.
Surveyors from the Indiana State Department of Health were contracted by CMS to conduct the on-site evaluation.
The Lutheran Transplant Center's heart transplant program has performed 256 heart transplants since 1985.
The transplant center's kidney transplant program has performed 37 transplants since June 2007.
The Lutheran Transplant Center offers the region's only heart and kidney transplant programs.
