Surprise party for kidney transplant recipient by altruistic donor and recipient’s wife

“Birthday” party with family and friends to celebrate progress

What: Ed Kester, a Lutheran Hospital kidney transplant recipient will be surprised by a “birthday” party given by his wife, Susan, and his altruistic donor, Genie Walters, to celebrate his success since receiving a new kidney Aug. 4, 2015. Approximately 25 family, friends and coworkers are expected to attend.

When: 6 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016    Interview Genie Walters (altruistic donor)

Where: Golden Corral Buffet & Grill, 5335 Distribution Dr.

Why: Genie Walters and Susan Kester wanted to celebrate Kester’s first anniversary. Walters also wants to generate more awareness of the need for organ donation and how humbling her decision has been.

Walters has grown so close with the Kester family that she will soon be the godmother of Ed and Susan’s 2-week-old granddaughter.
