Lutheran to provide drive-up flu shots October 11

Free event available to adults 18 and older

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Oct. 1, 2008) — Avoiding influenza this year might be as easy as rolling down your window and rolling up your sleeve. Lutheran Hospital is offering area residents a unique opportunity to receive a free flu shot directly from their automobile on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A total of 1,000 shots are being made available to adults 18 and older while supplies last. All vaccinations will take place on the ground level of the south parking garage on the Lutheran campus.

Participants will be asked to fill out a brief medical history prior to receiving the vaccine. Basic health tips will also be displayed at the event.

"Lutheran wants to make getting a flu shot as easy as possible for as many people as possible," said Karen Springer, chief operating officer, Lutheran Hospital. "This is the perfect time of year to begin building up your defenses against influenza. With an ample supply of the vaccine already available, we wanted to find a creative way to help the community fight the flu."

Other opportunities to receive a flu shot will be offered throughout the fall and early winter. Please visit the Allen County Flu Task Force Web site www.FightTheFlu.org to learn more.
