LUTHERAN HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATORS DON RED HEART COSTUMES FOR GOOD CAUSE

Employees donated $2,658.48 in less than five days for American Heart Association’s Heart Walk

Fort Wayne, Ind. (July 14, 2012) – If you visited Lutheran Hospital yesterday, you may have believed you were seeing things. For the entire day, Chief Executive Officer Brian Bauer and Chief Financial Officer Mike McCullough wore giant red heart costumes. Both donned the new office attire for a good cause.

Lutheran Hospital and Lutheran Health Network are supporters of the American Heart Association’s Northeast Indiana Heart Walk. As part of its participation in the Heart Walk, seven administrators at the hospital battled it out earlier this month to see who could raise the most money for the “privilege” of wearing the costume. Employees were encouraged to donate money to the administrator whom they most wanted to see dressed in red.

“The American Heart Association provides funding for researchers who continue to make significant impacts into fighting these deadly diseases,” said Bauer. “Patients turn to Lutheran for heart transplants, ventricular assist devices, aquapheresis therapy and numerous other examples of unsurpassed cardiac care. Much of what we’re able to provide to patients today begins with the type of research supported through efforts like the Heart Walk.”

A total of $2,658.48 was raised in less than five days, with Bauer and McCullough tying for most “requested” by hospital associates.

“This is a simple way we can inspire others to make a big difference,” said McCullough. “Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of both men and women in our country and stroke is the No. 4 killer. Unfortunately, that means almost every one of us will be affected by it either personally or through a loved one.”

Bauer and McCullough will also join the Luther Hospital and Lutheran Health Network team at the Northeast Indiana Heart Walk on September 15 at IPFW’s Alumni Plaza. For more information on how you can participate in the Heart Walk, visit Heart.org/FortWayne.
