Lutheran Transplant Center

When it comes to our commitment to transplant care, we wouldn't replace a thing.

Our goal is simple — be the best. After all, our transplant patients are counting on it. Since 1985, we've been a pioneer in heart transplantation and are applying that experience to our Kidney Transplant Program, which is now entering its third year.

By adhering to a strict multidisciplinary approach to the transplant process, we've been successful in exceeding national survival rate averages and improving the long-term outcomes and overall quality of life for our patients. At the Lutheran Transplant Center, it all starts with a team approach and a commitment to pursuing opportunities wherever they lead us. Comprised of surgeons, medical specialists, coordinators, social workers, pharmacists, nutritionists and staff members who provide specialized expertise and support for patients and their families, our transplant team is there every step of the way — from pre-transplant monitoring to post-surgical care — and is committed to exploring new procedures and technology.

Over the past three decades, this philosophy has paid off. In fact, we've consistently been recognized as a leader in transplantation.

Over 250 and counting.
In order to improve the quality of life for patients with end-stage heart failure, the Lutheran Heart Transplant Program has provided heart transplantation services since 1985, and artificial heart technology since 1987. Since then, we've performed over 250 heart transplants. Through comprehensive clinical and research initiatives, we are continuing to improve long-term outcomes for our growing transplant family.

Quality care that's close to home.
As the only kidney transplant program in the region, we offer expert, high-quality and personalized treatment for patients with advanced kidney disease. Since its creation in June 2007, the Lutheran Kidney Transplant Program has performed more than 45 successful transplants with kidneys donated from both living and deceased donors. Lutheran Hospital is now the preferred place of care for end-stage renal disease patients and their families. These patients are no longer forced to travel outside Fort Wayne for high-quality medical care.
