Prenatal Breastfeeding
You are strongly encouraged to learn more about breastfeeding by attending this class taught by our internationally board-certified lactation consultants. This class provides important information about breastfeeding, such as how baby needs to be properly positioned, how to assure baby is learning to latch on correctly and how to know if baby is getting enough breast milk.
We recommend that you and your support person take the class in your sixth or seventh month of pregnancy. Fathers are strongly encouraged to attend. Mothers may review the material by attending the mother's nursing group before delivery. The class is offered once a month.
The class is especially helpful for:
- First-time moms or dads
- Those who have had a previous negative breastfeeding experience
- Mothers with flat, inverted, short or large nipples
- Mothers with very large or small breasts
- Mothers at high risk (pre-eclampsia, known fetal abnormality, etc.)
- Mothers who have had breast surgery (reduction, augmentation, trauma, etc.)
- Mothers who may want to continue nursing after returning to work/school
- Parents who want to better understand the benefits of breastfeeding and its challenges
