Relaxation and More

This informative class focuses on the mental, emotional and physical aspects of relaxation techniques to prepare the expectant mother for labor. In an intimate and casual setting, expectant mothers and their partners discuss, demonstrate and practice comfort measures such as massage and touch therapy, breathing exercises and coach/mother communication skills. Because each labor and delivery is unique, partners learn a "whole body" approach to the childbirth experience.

This three-hour class strongly supports a natural delivery and is ideal for those seeking an alternative to traditional childbirth. The class, however, is also extremely beneficial to parents anticipating an epidural or other pain management options.

All of the childbirth classes offered at the Childbirth Suites of Lutheran Hospital are free of charge for those delivering at Lutheran. Click for a current listing of classes offered month by month at Lutheran Hospital.

This class is recommended as a follow-up to the Prepared Childbirth Class since having a basic knowledge of labor will help participants better understand how relaxation techniques can help during the labor process. It is also recommended that participants schedule this class far enough in advance to allow adequate time to practice the skills prior to the beginning of labor.

Groups are small, and space is limited, so register early. Tours are not included with this class but can be scheduled separately. This class is offered every other month.
