What is Lung Volume Reduction?

Lung volume reduction is an operation in which the most damaged areas of your lung are removed to help the remaining lung function better. A thoracic surgeon will look at your X-rays and scans and determine which part of your lung to remove. Lung volume reduction may reduce your shortness of breath, increase your exercise capacity, and improve your quality of life. Unfortunately, there is no cure for emphysema, but lung volume reduction may offer you relief from your symptoms.
