Generations at Lutheran Hospital and Generations II at St. Joseph Hospital provide care designed specifically to meet the emotional and physical needs of older adults. Since we're located within the hospital, we can assist in the coordination each patients medical care. We encourage each patients primary care physician to participate in our care plan.
Because each person has unique needs, we operate as a team, relying on specialists and caregivers with expertise in the care of seniors. Physicians, psychiatrists, nurse, social workers and an activities therapist work with each patient and their family to create an effective, personalized care program.
While each plan is unique and developed to meet the individuals needs, there are some common components in most of our patients treatment. Among these common components are:
- Group Therapy.
Sessions focus on a variety of topics like coping with grief and loss, reminiscing, goal-setting and stress reduction
- Life Skills
Our therapy staff works with patients to address everyday activities such as personal hygiene, cooking and laundry
- Recreational Activities
Walks, exercise, crafts and hobbies are used to help patients reorient themselves to social settings
Generations patients are cared for with dignity and respect. This extends to our complete confidentiality in all aspects of care. Our unit is secured so patients can move about freely and maintain their privacy.
Generations offers free, confidential assessments 24 hours a day. Patients enter the program either by physician referral or self (or family) referral on the recommendation of our assessment counselor. Medicare Part A and most insurance companies provide coverage for patients who qualify for admission.
We often use the word patient. But we never forget that each 'patient' is a mom, dad, neighbor or friend. They are someone special, and that's how we treat them.
